While the list is long, you may run across situations where your bank or credit union is not a part of the Zelle network.

But that doesn’t mean the end of the road. You can still try an alternative option below.

What to do if your Credit Union is not on Zelle

If you find that your Credit Union is not a part of the Zelle network, you can still explore the option to use the Zelle service indirectly.

To try this out, follow the steps below

• Download and Install the Zelle App on your Phone
• Register using your Credit Union Debit Card
• Enter US mobile number or email id to be used for Zelle when prompted

If your credit union debit card is on Visa or MasterCard network and supported by Zelle App, you will be able to successfully register and use Zelle.

As some debit cards are not yet enabled to support instant transfer (Required by Zelle), this method may not work for all credit union debit cards.

Make sure the details you enter for the debit card -zip code, name, etc. match the information that your credit union has about the card to avoid declines.

So you can use your credit union debit card inside Zelle App to send and receive money. While the experience on Zelle App may not be as smooth as the one on your credit union app, it gets the job done.

Now one more important detail you have to keep in mind is that

To use Zelle, at least one person must have a bank or credit union that is in the Zelle Network in order to send and receive money.

So it may not work if both you and the other person to whom you want to send money (or receive money from) have a credit union or bank that is outside the Zelle network.

In other words-At least one of the persons needs to have Zelle natively on the bank or credit union app for the transfer to go through.
