Car Rentals that Accept Cash App Card | Complete List

If you are looking to rent a car and wondering if car rentals accept Cash App Card, you are on the right post to get all the details. Do the popular car rentals like Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, etc. accept Cash App Card, read on to find the answer.

The Cash App card works like a debit card linked to your Cash App Balance and is to be accepted at places where Visa is accepted.

However, in most cases, it is not simple as that. Most merchants treat it as a prepaid card when it comes to payments. And as a general rule, most car rentals are averse to accepting prepaid cards including Cash App cards.

In addition, Car rental companies have different policies at different locations e.g. airport and non-airport locations which change from time to time. There are also factors like demand, operational issues, and past experience that can impact the acceptance at a particular location. Car rental companies are more prone to fraud and can be very particular when it comes to payment methods.

Due to this, there is no straightforward answer.

Your Cash App Card may not be accepted at your local car rental locations. Always have a backup plan and carry a credit card which has wider acceptability when it comes to renting a car.

Car Rentals that accept Cash App Card

While Car Rental companies may be changing the policies with respect to the payment methods, Enterprise has a better acceptance rate with Cash App Card, while Hertz and its group companies Dollar Rental and Thrifty Rental do not accept Cash App Card lately. Avis and Budget accept Cash App Card for final payment, but may not accept it at the time of reservation or car pick up.

Does Enterprise Accept Cash App Card

Enterprise accepts Visa-branded prepaid cards including Cash App Card as per its policies. However, it may not work at all locations.

There have been instances where users have not been able to use the Cash App Card when renting a car at Enterprise.

Moreover, there are several conditions attached if you want to use a debit card, which includes a $200 hold, and additional identity verification requirements.

At airport locations, debit card deposits are only accepted at the time of rental if accompanied by a ticketed return travel itinerary. The name and address shown on the renter’s driver’s license must match their current home address.

At the time of rental, charges will be placed on the debit card which reduces the available funds in the account associated with the card used.

So if you are using Cash App Card, you will need to have an adequate balance in your account. The renter is responsible for any overdraft fees incurred, in case your account goes into negative on account of hold charges.

Does Hertz Accept Cash App Card

Hertz does not accept Cash App Cards at company-managed locations.

Lately, many car rental companies have banned the use of digital bank cards including Cash App Card due to rising fraud instances during the pandemic period. Hertz is known to have banned the use of Chime Cards at its locations.

As per the Hertz website on payment terms, you can pay car rental charges with a credit, Visa/MasterCard debit, or charge card that is accepted at the pickup location (Card) or by cash.

So you can still check with the location near you, since it may not be universally applicable.

But paying with a debit card or prepaid card is always subject to more stringent checks. At most Hertz locations, you will be subjected to a credit check if you pay with a debit card to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental.

Further, you need to have adequate funds to cover the hold charges in addition to estimated car rental charges when you are paying with a debit or a prepaid card. The authorization hold can go up to US$ 500.00 for debit cards depending on location, length, and date of rental that will be outlined at the time of rental.

These funds will not be available for your use. So it is not a preferred option to pay with a debit card even if it gets accepted. You can check the Hertz website for more details on the payment terms.

Hertz also owns the car rental companies like Dollar Rental and Thrifty Rental. So, it is a possibility that the same policies are replicated at the locations.

Does Avis Accept Cash App Card

Avis does not allow you to pay with Cash App Card for car pick up, but you can use it for the final payment after the return of the car.

Avis locations usually accept debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo as credit identification at the time of rental if you are at least 25.

However, for debit cards, there is a hold placed on the funds in your account for the estimated cost of the rental.

Also. you cannot rent all vehicle types with a debit card. Especially, the premium vehicles are restricted.

Does Budget Accept Cash App Card

Budget does not allow you to use Cash App Card at the time of reservation. But it may allow you to use it at the time of final payment on the return of the car.

Budget is likely to follow the same policies as Avis, being part of the same group.

So you may be able to use your Cash App Card only at the time of final payment when returning the car and not at the time of initial deposit or pick up.

Does Turo Accept Cash App Card

Turo does not accept Cash App Card. As per the Turo website, they accept debit cards linked to a checking account

As per Turo Website, non-temporary debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo that are linked to a checking account are accepted payment methods. This includes debit cards issued by online banks, such as Chime, Ally, and others. However, it does exclude reloadable debit cards such as Simple, Chase Liquid, or EDD.

Wrap Up

So it is not going to be a smooth ride if you are planning to use your Cash App Card at most car rentals. It always makes sense to have a backup plan. Be ready with a credit card that has far more acceptability at car rentals and can also save you from the hassles of going through credit checks and additional verification requirements.
