Does Chime Show Pending Deposits [Complete Guide]

Chime is one of the popular fintech that give you early access to pay deposit (2 days before your payday). If you are looking for an answer to the common question – Does Chime Show Pending Deposits, you are on the right post to get the complete details.

The straightforward answer is: Yes, you can see your pending deposits on Chime App. However, this does not apply to direct deposits which are supposed to be credited on the same day Chime receives it from your employer(unless it’s a bank holiday).

If you get paid by a check deposit, then you may be able to see the pending deposits right on the Chime main screen.

It can be a frustrating wait when you are eagerly anticipating your direct deposit from your employer. You would like to have visibility of the behind-the-scene action to understand if the direct deposit is pending.

However, with Chime, the norm is that Chime does not hold your payroll direct deposits. So you should not expect to see any pending deposit items on your app dashboard for direct deposits. You will only get the final status when the deposit hits your bank account.

With Chime, the benefit is that Chime credits your direct deposit money up to two days early into your account. This works on the basis that Chime will credit your account as soon as it gets the details from your employer, cutting down the standard processing time by up to 2 days.

However, this is not a 100% case that you will receive the deposit two days early. Ultimately, the processing depends on Chime receiving the payment file from the employers on time to be able to meet the two days mark.

Chime makes it clear on the website how the 2 days early payment actually works:

“Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from the payer. We generally make these funds available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to 2 days earlier than the scheduled payment date.”

Further, there are situations where such a day may be falling on weekends or national holidays which will impact the processing time. Chime follows all the bank holidays, after all. So you can’t expect to get the payment credited on such holidays. In such cases, you can usually expect the payment on the following business day, as per Chime.

Often you are anticipating what day you can actually expect to receive your pay.

How to See Pending Deposits on Chime?

Pending deposits are the deposits in process for which the funds are not available in your Chime account yet.

Chime show pending deposits on your app main screen, marked in grey color. However, it does not show any pending direct deposit as Chime does not hold these deposits and you will only get the notification when the deposit is actually credited to your account.

So pending deposits show up only in case of deposits other than a payroll direct deposit. For e.g. if you have a mobile check deposit, it will take some time to get the credit into your account

Chime follows a color code scheme that you can see in the transaction statement

  • Completed Transaction is one where
    • the amount is in green color for money received or
    • the amount is in black color for money paid or debited)
  • Pending Transaction is one where the digits are in grey color

What time does Chime Direct Deposit Hit [Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday]

There is no fixed time for getting the direct deposit credited in your bank account, as it depends on when your employer initiates the payroll. You can expect to see direct deposits from 9 AM EST to even late at night time.

You will see instances where people have received the credit throughout the day i.e. from early morning to afternoon time to evenings or even at late night.

This also does not depend on the day when direct deposits are processed unless it’s a weekend which can delay the credit to the next business day.

Generally, your employer will follow a set timetable to initiate the payroll, so you should be seeing the direct deposit being credited at a fixed time. However, this is not to do with Chime and more on the employer.

Does Chime Direct Deposit on Saturdays or Sundays

Chime does not direct deposit on Saturday or Sunday. You can only expect the direct deposit to be processed on a weekday (that is not a federal holiday)

Why is my Chime Direct Deposit Late

Many times you will see a delay in your direct deposit. This can be either due to a delay at the end of your employer or Chime.

It can be very difficult to pinpoint who is responsible in such cases and always becomes a guessing game. In most cases, it has to do with when the employer initiated the payroll but sometimes can be a processing issue at Chime’s end (see example below).

Chime, also mentions that the 2-day early direct deposit is not a guarantee and is more on a best effort basis. Sometimes you may get the credit a day before and up to two days early, when everything goes well/

You can also check this link https://www.chime.com/status/ to see if there is an issue with the Chime processing on that particular day.

Once direct deposit is ready, exactly when your funds will hit can vary depending on factors like what type of payroll software your employer uses and when payroll is submitted.

Wrap Up

So Chime does show pending deposits only when it is not a case of direct deposit, where ideally it should not be pending in the first place. Let us know your experience with Chime direct deposit in the comments.

  1. For 5+years I have received my Social Security deposit 2 days early and my Veteran Affairs Comp 4day early. The few times this has changed have always been an earlier deposit never later. Deposit times have always been on the 8s. :08, :18, :28, :38, :48 &:58 between 11am and 2 pm est with 12:38, 12:58 and 1:08 being about 99% of the times. 5 years without fail.
