Buy Now Pay Later that works with Cash App [Complete List]

Buy Now Pay Later is a growing trend in shopping where you buy the item, without paying in full upfront and opt to pay in installments. There are many popular BNPL apps like Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm, QuadPay but not all of them work with Cash App. If you are a user of Cash App and looking for Buy Now Pay Later Apps that work with Cash App, you are on the right post to get the complete details of what works and does not

Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is a convenient option to pay for your heavy purchases, without burning a hole in your pocket. This trend is becoming popular with many new players entering the space. If you pay your installments in time, there is no interest or other charges but you should take care to pay on time, to avoid any late fees. It works both for your online as well as offline purchases.

The way it works is that you use any of the popular services like Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm, etc. for your purchases, linking your bank account or card in these apps which will be used to make the payment in installments, which can be done manually or using automatic payments on the due date.

Cash app is one of the popular apps that is a product of Square. But if you are looking to add your Cash App card as a payment method in Buy Now Pay later service, you may run into challenges.

Do Buy Now Pay Later Apps like Sezzle, Klarna, AfterPay, Affirm accept Cash App Card? No, currently the popular Buy Now Pay Later Apps do not directly work with Cash App cards for placing orders. This is because a Cash App card is not a bank debit card and is a prepaid card that is linked to funds you hold in your Cash App wallet.

But this is not the end of the road for Cash App Users. There are some ways in which you can indirectly use the Cash App Card.

There is still hope if you want to use Buy Now Pay Later Apps like AfterPay, Sezzle, Affirm, Klarna, etc. and pay with Cash Card.

In fact, an important development to note is that AfterPay service has been acquired by Block (earlier called Square, the parent company of Cash App) and the plan is that it will soon be integrated with Cash App, offering the most convenient Buy Now Pay Later option for all cash app users.

Did you know- 56% of Americans have used Buy Now Pay Later Service

However, you can still use the Cash App card indirectly with BNPL apps- Add your Cash App card in Apple Pay or Google Pay wherever it is supported as a payment option.

Use Apple Pay or Google Pay as the payment method on the Buy Now Pay later app when shopping.

Alternatively, transfer the funds from your Cash App card to a linked debit card or bank account and make the payment to the BNPL service.

Read on to get the complete picture

Does Klarna Accept Cash app?

No, Klarna does not accept Cash App Card as it is a prepaid card and Klarna only accepts credit or debit cards of major brands.

You can however use Cash App with Klarna indirectly. Klarna supports both Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment methods. And both these apps work with Cash App Card. So you can add your Cash App card to Apple Pay or Google Pay and make the payment to Klarna from there.

Another option to explore is if your objective is to use the funds in your Cash App account. Simply cash out or transfer the funds in your Cash App account to another bank debit card that you hold (as Cash App supports instant transfer to a debit card at a 1.5% fee) and then use this debit card as a payment method in Klarna.

Or if you have time, you can transfer the funds from Cash App to a linked bank account (takes 1-3 business days) and use that bank account as the payment method in Klarna.

For this, the debit card should have been added to your Cash App as a payment method. You can follow the steps below

Does Sezzle Accept Cash app?

Sezzle does not support Cash App as a payment method for placing an order. However, you can use your Cash App card for paying the balance installments over the credit period.

To add Cash App Card in Sezzle:

  • Go to the Payment Methods option on Sezzle dashboard
  • Click on “Add a new debit/credit card” and input your Cash App card details.
  • Once added, it should show up under “Prepaid card” section .

As prepaid cards will not work to place orders or for scheduling installments, you cannot select them as your default payment method. However, you can use it to pay off existing installments.

Again the indirect methods will work here. You can try using Apple Pay or Google Pay as payment methods in Sezzle.

Then add funds from Cash App Account to Apple Wallet/Google Pay to use it on Sezzle.

Does Affirm Accept Cash app?

As per Affirm, you can pay only with your debit card or checking account for all Affirm purchases. So you cannot use the Cash App Card to pay for Affirm.

Here again, if you want to simply use the funds from your Cash App account to pay Affirm, you can use the indirect route:

  • Transfer funds from Cash App Card to a linked debit card in your Cash App (which can be done instantly for 1.5% fee) and use the debit card on Affirm
  • Transfer funds from Cash App Card to a linked bank account (Takes 1-3 business days) and use the bank account on Cash App

For some purchases, you can also pay by credit card for the down payment and installments.

Does AfterPay Accept Cash app?

AfterPay accept all major international credit cards and debit cards. It also offers limited support to prepaid cards like the Cash App card. The Cash App card can only be used for making payments manually using the “Pay Now” option on Cash App.

It does not work like a full fledged payment option. Unlike a bank debit card. prepaid cards like Cash App card cannot be saved as a payment method inside AfterPay app for automatic payments.

You can choose to use indirect routes here- as AfterPay accepts Apple Pay. So make your purchases on AfterPay by using Apple Pay as the payment method. And add your Cash App Card to Apple Pay. Read the details here on how to use the Cash App Card on AfterPay.

Also, you can expect positive updates in this space, since AfterPay has been recently acquired by Square (the parent company of Cash App) in 2021 for a whopping $29 billion. The plan is AfterPay will be integrated and offer a payment option within Cash App.

There is, however, no timeline communicated for this.

Does QuadPay (now called Zip) Accept Cash App

QuadPay (Zip) is another Buy Now Pay Later service which accepts only debit cards attached to bank accounts and credit cards for payments and does not support Cash App Card (which is a prepaid card)

Zip does allow you to pay an active installment with Apple Pay, but it seems it cannot be used for placing the order.

So you cannot use the indirect route for placing orders. So you can simply move your Cash App funds to a supporting debit card and use a debit card to place the order on Zip.

Cash Apps’ Own Buy Now Pay Later Option

Cash App in the meantime has already introduced its own Buy Now Pay Later option which is being rolled out on a pilot basis. This is available only at selected locations and merchants as of now and for purchases in the range of $35 to $500 only.

With the Cash App BNPL option, you can split your purchase at participating online merchants into 4 interest-free payments. You’ll pay your first payment at checkout and the remaining 3 payments will be charged automatically to your Cash App balance or linked card every 2 weeks.

If your balance is insufficient, funds will be pulled from your linked debit card.

As per Cash App, the availability of this BNPL option may be determined by a variety of factors including Cart Size, Cash App Usage, Account History, Repayment History, Credit History, etc.

Is Buy Now Pay Later a good option?

Buy Now Pay Later should not make you get into things that you feel are too expensive otherwise. Look at it as an option to manage your cash flow only.

It does not increase the affordability of a product. First, ask yourself- can you afford the total product price within your overall budget? And then only look at installment amount from a cash flow perspective.

A report says that more than half of users i.e. 57% regretted making a purchase through Buy Now, Pay Later because the item was too expensive. So use it with caution with clarity of your budget. Don’t get attracted by the small installment amount, but keep your eyes on the overall price of the product when making the decision.

Wrap Up

Currently, all BNPL options do not offer full-fledged support for prepaid cards, including Cash App Card. However, you still have an option to pay indirectly via Apple Pay or Google Pay as above. Or you can simply transfer your Cash App funds to a linked bank account or debit card which to make payment for BNPL purchases. With Cash App now rolling out its own BNPL option, you will soon get a direct option at many stores once it expands.
