How to Use Chime Temporary Card[Complete Guide]

Chime is one of the most popular online-only banking service providers. It allows you to access most banking services immediately, using the Chime mobile app itself. One great example is the Chime Temporary Card (also called as Chime Virtual Card) which is a digital version of the Chime Debit Card, that you use to access your Chime funds without a physical Chime Debit Card.

In this guide, we will cover all the queries on the Chime Virtual card including the ways to use it, does it work at ATMs, and how to use it at stores and online with payment wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.

The Chime Temporary Card is an in-app temporary digital version of the Chime Debit card, which you can use, till the time you receive your physical Chime Debit Card. It is also referred to as the Chime Virtual Card or Temporary Digital Card.

When you open a new Chime Account or place a request for a replacement of a Chime Card, the physical Chime Debit Card is sent by post to your home address and can take around 7-10 days to arrive.

But thanks to the Chime Temporary Card, which is available immediately on the Chime Mobile app, you do not need to wait for so long. During this period, you can use the Chime Temporary Virtual Card for your transactions both in-store and online.

With a Chime Virtual Card, you can access all your Card details right on your phone by using the Chime Mobile App. The Chime Virtual card is shown under Settings->View My Card.

It is specifically designed for use in such situations when you have applied for a new debit card or for a replacement card but want to use it immediately.

But the question comes to mind- how do you use it?

Let’s answer this-

At a glance: You can use your Chime Virtual Card for in-store purchases by adding it to a payment wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay. You can also use the card online for making purchases on a merchant app or website. You can even link the Chime Temporary Card in other payment apps like Cash App or Venmo to use the funds from your Chime account.

An important point to note is that the Chime Temporary Digital card can only be used, where you have not activated the physical card. It is meant to be a temporary arrangement, so you can access or use your Chime funds for transactions only till the time the physical Chime Debit Card arrives.

    • You should be able to turn on the transactions, if you have toggled it off at your end. If you can’t, it is best to check with Chime Customer care- if is has been blocked temporarily due to any security reasons.
